Friedrich Nietzsche and Kanye West

At first when I heard that there was a link between German Philosipher Friedrich Nietzsche and Kanye West I thought I would never find it but the answer is fairly obvious! Friedrich Nietzsche famously quoted ‘That which does not kill us makes us stronger.’ and this links to Kanye West’s recent song ‘Stronger’ in which he sings/rap’s ‘n-n-now-th-that don’t kill me can only make me stronger’

Some background information on Friedrich Nietzsche (as I didn’t know who he was before and so i can remind myself!)

- He was a German Philosopher who influenced many major philosophers and writers of the 20th century in Germany and France

-After his father’s death he rejected his faith and launched into a lifelong rebellion against Christianity stating that “In truth, there was only one Christian, and he died on the cross”

-In 1872 he published his first book ‘The birth of Tragedy’ in which greek mythology featured highly as a explanation for his theory that all human beings have uncontrollable self destructive instincts. His most popular book however was ‘Thus Spoke Zarathustra’ (1883-1885).

-In 1889 Nietzsche suffered a mental breakdown, he first went into an assylum and then into his family’s care. Nietzsche then died in August 1900.
